ranch13North Idaho and Western Montana have beautiful ranches nestled into the mountains and valleys of  the Rocky Mountains.  Surrounded by stunning scenery, activities center around the true western mode of travel–horseback.  Because most ranch stays are all-inclusive, meals, lodging and activities are all included in one price.

Accomodations can range from guest rooms in a main lodge, to cozy cabins for the family or luxurious mountain retreats and private homes.  Three meals a day are served family style with special nights reserved for couples only and real western campfire cookouts.  Most activities are guided by the ranch hands such as trail rides, hiking, mountain bike rides, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, river floats, atv rides, gold panning and more.

ranch21Dude ranches cater to kids with special programs that are both educational and entertaining.  Hands on experience with their assigned horse is centerpeice for these programs along with daily adventures introducing them to riding, nature and ranch life.  Adults are always welcome to join their kids during any activity, or may use this special time to pursue their own adventures.

Ranch vacations are usually booked for 3-7 night stays during the summer months with shorter stays for spring and fall.  TMI Tours offers a wide selection of ranch vacation throughout Idaho and Montana.  Let us match you to your perfect western vacation.  Call Rhonda or Linda at 1-800-975-7775 or email info@tmitours.com

Beaver Bay at Farragut

Beaver Bay at Farragut

If you are looking for an amazing outdoor experience, try an R.V. or tent-camping vacation to beautiful Farragut State Park.  Located 30 miles north of Coeur d’Alene, this 4,000 acre gem is situated on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho’s largest lake.  Farragut offers the traditional recreational opportunities of picnicing, boating, swimming, hiking, and camping and has some unique activities such as disc golf, a model airplane flying field, the Naval Training Center museum and an orienteering course. Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park are only 7 short miles away.

First stop must be the visitors center where you can pick up trail maps, travel guides, campground information and registration.  There are natural history and park displays as well as a gift shop with souvenir items and snacks.

Farragut offers over 40 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails.  Try hiking the Highpoint trail to Scout trail and up Bernard Peak to look back across the lake at the park.  Bernard Peak is famous for viewing mountain goats that live on it’s rocky face.

Play the 18 hole Wreckreator or North Star professional level disc golf courses or the Whole Nine Yards course offering 9 holes for beginners and young children.

The model airplane flying field is usually buzzing with kids and adults flying remote planes and helicopters.

Swimming anywhere along the shoreline of Lake Pend Oreille is refreshing, but the Beaver Bay Beach offers a unique horseshoe- shaped protected beach and swimming area perfect for younger children.

A park Naturalist is on staff implementing programs such as trail hikes, junior rangers, evening campfires and films in the Brig theatre on history and geology.

Coeur d’Alene Lake is one of the few places in the United States that has a sustainable land-locked Chinook Salmon fishery. In 1982, Chinook Salmon were stocked in the lake and now the fishery has grown to be one of the most popular in the Northwest. The catch rate in the spring and early summer are good with the average Chinook weighing in at 3 to 8 pounds. However, it is not uncommon to catch 10 and 11 pound fish as well.

If you have never fished for Northern Pike, then you are in for a treat. These aggressive fish are the apex warm water predator in Coeur d’Alene Lake. (more…)
